In January of 2000, 20 women met in the sanctuary of St. Andrew's United Church for the first rehearsal of the choir that would become the Serenata Singers. Twenty years later, Serenata remains an unauditioned community women's choir based in Mission, BC. We sing together to both celebrate and create a society of music-lovers that is inclusive, accessible, supportive, and full of the joy of song. We welcome guest artists and collaborators to our performances twice a year. The choir has also had the opportunity to sing with the Mission Folk Festival, and at other community events around Mission and the surrounding area.
Under the direction of our intrepid musical director, Deborah Handley, the choir has a varied and engaging repertoire reflecting our cosmopolitan and diverse membership, as well as the natural surroundings of the Fraser Valley in which we live. Serenata rejoices in traditional choral music, folk, musical theatre, indigenous songs, modern composers from both Canada and internationally, as well as singing in languages from around the globe.
